Fröja on the Göta ÄlvStanding in for one of the Älvsnabben ferry boats on 5 May 2008, Fröja normally runs between the islands of the southern Gothenburg archipelago. Fröja is the Old Norse name for the goddess of love.
She was delivered in 1980 from the Djupvik shipyard on the island of Tjörn. The steel hull is designed to cope with ice. In 1993 she was upgraded with a new interior and a roof over the sundeck, including new engines.
Length: 29.19 m, beam 7.72 m and max. draught 3.07 m. She has 210 seats in two saloons and can carry a maximum of 382 passengers.
She has four 12-litre Volvo Penta engines totalling 1,040 hp driving one reversible propeller. The service speed is 12.5 knots.
