Memphis Queen III, a sternwheeler at Memphis, TN

Photographed on the Mississippi 25 July 2003.
Capt. Tom Meanley designed and built this boat in the back yard of his little farm in southwest Shelby County, the Memphis Queen Shipyard, in 1976-1979. The boat had to be moved over 12 miles of dry land. The Memphis Belle III was christened on May 8, 1979. She can carry 400 passengers. She is 99.8 feet long and 27 feet wide. Her true paddlewheel is powered by a diesel engine with additional twin screws.

Is this a restoration of the Memphis Queen I used to ride on in the 1950's? Where is the original?

Hi Diane!
According to the Memphis Riverboats web site, the first of their fleet was the Memphis Queen II a two-decked sternwheeler 80 feet long, which has been in service since 1955. See the web site for a photo of that boat, which may be the one you mean.
